There is a new bamboo furniture collection being launched by Miami-based furniture designer Facundo Poj. In case you are not familar with his work, Facundo is famous for taking your run of the mill furniture and turning them into modern masterpieces. His bamboo furniture collection didn’t disappoint.

This latest collection is called Machine 87. Like his previous works, there are no glue, nails or screws involved in holding the bamboo furniture together. Instead, he used his system called the groove joint system. All the items you see on the right are made of 100% bamboo.

Include in this collection is one bamboo coffee table and 3 bamboo chairs, comprising a lounger and straight chair with mini versions of each. All four pieces are cut with unique angles, creating a different look that will surely attract the attention of your house guests.

One final note. His bamboo furniture collection includes both adult and children furniture, which makes it convenient if a family want to buy a matching set of furniture for all its members.

Lexon bamboo gadgets

The kind of bamboo furniture and products is getting more varied. Lexon has released three cool looking bamboo gadgets that you should definitely take a look. These household accessories look cool and sophisticated. They also look like they are well built, with high quality bamboo being used.

Bamboo touch

At first glance, this doesn’t seem like a torch at all. The only bamboo torch I heard of is the tiki torches in Hawaii. This however make me turn my eyes. It has a nice and elegant body with smooth lines. The user interface look really good, almost iphone like. I am sure the prices will not be cheap.

Next up is the bamboo calculator. Again this look absolutely stunning. Compared to the black and white colors that we are used to seeing on our calculators, here is something that is totally different. Bamboo mobile cases

Mizco, a maker for mobile phone accessories, has just released a bamboo mobile cases. This is part of their new Back to Nature Series, which emphasis the use of recyclable materials for their products.  It is good to see more and more companies becoming more eco friendly. As the world becomes more polluted, we all need to do our part to make our environment more livable.

The prices for these bamboo mobile cases will range around $15 to $30, which is not expensive.  According to their press release, these cases have the following charactertis “the black flip and fold-over cotton woven cases, which also feature an embroidered flap, are manufactured from 100% degradable cotton. The flip and fold-over black hemp cases are constructed entirely from 100% biodegradable hemp. The recycled paper cases feature 100% recycled pulp from used paper and a 100% linen lining, making it both eco-friendly and fully degradable. Finally, the dark natural bamboo cases are created from 100% crude bamboo structure with crude bamboo block and remaining construction material.”

Bamboo chairs – spring chairs

If you think bamboo chairs are boring, think again.  Designer Anthony Marschak, has a beautiful serious of sleek bamboo chairs called spring chairs. They exhibit the modern feel that most contemporary homes owners would have to have.

The chairs are made of bamboo. According to the official site,  the design ‘derives its gentle motion from the inherent strength and flexibility of bamboo, and provides a unique respond to the weight and movement of each individual.’ The curved form and the bamboo texture makes a lovely combination. Color wise, it is available in Amber, Cherry and Ebony. In terms of dimensions, they are measured by the following  37″H x 21″D x 17″W

This set of spring chairs are not cheap by any means. Their range according to $690-$710, which are much higher than what you would expect from a normal bamboo chair.

Bamboo bicycle

Vijay Sharma, a Bangalore-based designer, is creating a bicycle based on bamboo. His intention is to drive his creation for the green cause. He will ride his handcrafted cycle all the way to Ooty, the hill station in the Nilgiris in neighbouring Tamil Nadu, 900 km away from this tech hub.

In terms of innovation, this is a world’s first in terms of being the only bamboo bicycle. This creation costs about Rs.10,000. Currently, it is not ready for mass production yet although Mr Sharma is in talks to bring it to the market. It will be interesting to see if this can really be done. In the future, will we roads full of bamboo bicycle, rather than steel based bicycles.

Bamboo pc cases

For those looking for something natural for your PC, Foxconn has come up with a range of bamboo PC cases. Bamboo has a couple of benefits over the normal wood. Firstly, it is much more eco friendly as bamboo is more replenishable.  It can be grown in poor soil conditions and hostile weather. Secondly, bamboo pc cases are dirt resistant and easier to clean as they have anti bacteria properties. Finally, these type of cases have higher durability as bamboo is quite strong when compared to other types of wood.

Foxconn has come up with two types of bamboo pc cases. The Bamboo One and Bamboo II, with the first one being for traditional mid-tower form factors and the second for smaller, HTPC applications.
